In addition to the daily ins and outs of being married entrepreneurs and small business owners, they have two amazing children who keep them active and moving.
Both of us were active all growing up and into young adulthood. Julie was involved heavily in dance and swimming through high school and spent hours teach group fitness classes every week in college.
Charlie played basketball competitively through college and was deeply involved in the mainstream sports performance and fitness worlds. But by the time we were both in our early 20s, we were experiencing significant issues with our health.
Julie had chronic plantar fasciitis and experienced extreme fatigue and headaches that would last for days. Charlie's joints were constantly in pain and his muscles were always tight. His blood sugar levels would go through massive fluctuations every day.
We began learning about the role that muscles can play in feeling and functioning well through a series of courses called Muscle Activation Techniques® (MAT®) and Resistance Training Specialist® (RTS®). Charlie also enrolled in graduate school to study the role of exercise in promoting health, boosting longevity, and warding off chronic disease and illness.
Through these courses, working with clients, and our own self-experimentation, we began seeing that when we changed how we exercised, our health and function completely changed.
After years of study and experiencing firsthand the issues the mainstream fitness industry creates, we opened up our boutique exercise studio in Schaumburg, IL, one of Chicago’s northwest suburbs.
Our goal was simple - to provide a safe and private place for our clients to exercise in ways that were sustainable and felt good while building their strength, health, and function.
While the work we were doing with our one-on-one clients was impacting their lives, we knew that our message could benefit more than just those in our community. That is why, in 2018, we began pulling back the curtain on how we work with our clients with our weekly podcast, Exercise Is Health®.
Then, in 2020, our studio had to shut down during the stay-at-home order in the state of Illinois. For 75 days in a row, we conducted live workouts from our living room, helping our followers continue to build their strength and health from their homes. This was the catalyst that allowed us to realize that our exercise philosophies and training methodologies could be effectively implemented through online workouts.
In 2021, we brought our message to an even wider audience with the release of our first book, The Exercise For Life Method, in which we detailed out the how and why of our philosophies.
In 2022 we expanded upon our online workout offerings with our Premium Exercise For Life Membership Program.
We saw that almost every online workout option was taking the worst aspects of the mainstream fitness industry, combining it with all of the issues that were already being created by mainstream fitness, and delivering it in a more convenient manner...
In other words - everything on the market was making it easier and more convenient than ever to feel lousy, feel sore, and injure yourself with your workouts.
We knew something needed to change.
So we took all of our experience training people both online and in person over the past 12 years, plus all of the educational content and courses that our community of Exercisers was loving, and combined it into an accessible, easy-to-use membership.
This finally allowed people to build their health, strength, and function from the convenience of their home without all of the dangerous nonsense that had taken over the mainstream fitness industry, allowing our community to truly Exercise For Life.
We are excited about what the future holds and look forward to continue to help our community of Exercisers Exercise For Life!
